During present days India has been suffering from plenty of social issues varying from unemployment to communal violence. Some social problems are unemployment, poverty, illiteracy, gendered violence, caste system, and communalism.
Unemployment
Unemployment is a critical issue in India nowadays. Government is least interested in seasonal unemployment. As a result, cultivators in India remain unemployed for almost four to six months a year.Cyclical unemployment is caused by the ups and downs in business and is very common in the present Covid situation. Moreover, the introduction of new technologies tends to reduce the scope of manual job markets as well. Many people are losing jobs due to a lack of proper training or disability. Sadly, our improper education system never stresses vocational training. The middle class and high-income groups are mostly getting benefited from the present education system.
Poverty
According to the Planning Commission, 22% of India’s population lived below the poverty line in 2012. But the pandemic increased it to 28 percent. The rapidly rising population, low agricultural productivity without government assistance, ruthless caste system, weak infrastructure, and lack of poverty alleviation programs from the governmental part are the primary causes of poverty in India.
Illiteracy
Illiteracyis a crucial obstacle to development as it gives birth to unskilled labor.According to the 2011 census, the literacy rate of India was around 74% on average.
Gendered Violence
Women are constant victims of exploitation and violence throughout the ages in our country. Violence specifically against women comprises criminal, social, or even domestic violence. Rape, murder, female infanticide, and abduction come under the criminal sphere, whereas domestic violence encompasses wife battering, dowry deaths, and marital rape.Social violence comprises many things, including eve-teasing, molestation, unequal behavior, which denote the unprivileged situation of women. According to the
The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), 33,356 cases of rape were documented allover India in 2018.
Caste System
Established the Indian caste system was on hierarchy, pollution, and purity. Even now, the crucial problems confronted by Dalits are mainly exploitation and social discrimination. They are still prohibited from participating in the political-economic and social procedures of the country.
Communalism
In the Indian subcontinent, though our constitution ensures all religious minorities under provisions for justice, tolerance, equality, and freedom, communal violence became part and parcel of India since its very independence.Mass mobilizations, mutiny, and riots fall under communal violence, which is always politically motivated rather than impacted by religion.
Dr.Ambedkar dream of a society that is based on equality, liberty, and fraternity. In one of his essays, he asserted.
“Ajust society is that society in which an ascending sense of reverence and descending sense of contempt is dissolved into the creation of a compassionate society.”
B.R. Ambedkar, Annihilation of Caste
